Aquaculture Management
A study was conducted at the coastal water of Kupang Bay from March, 2006 to May, 2006. The aims of the study are : 1. To identify the physical, chemical and biological parameters at the utilization zone-coastal water at of Kupang Bay, East Nusa Tenggara . 2. To analyze the value of coastal water suitability from the physical, chemical and biological parameters for the development for mariculture at utilization zone of Kupang Bay, East Nusa Tenggara. 3. To select the sub zone for sea weed culture, grouper fish culture site using the system of floating net cage and the culture of pearl oyster.
A study was conducted at the coastal water of Kupang Bay from March, 2006 to May, 2006. The aims of the study are : 1. To select the sub zone for sea weed culture, grouper fish culture site using the system of floating net cage and the culture of pearl oyster.
The method used in the study was a spatial approach by conducting the direct measurement of the physical, chemical and biological parameters. Mapping and spatial model was analyzed by geo-statistic. While for site selection the mariculture conducted by arranging the matrix of suitability using scoring and standardlization formula. The result of the research shows that the range values of the physical, chemical and biological parameters at utilization zone of Kupang Bay are as follow : 1. Variable of physics parameter are : (a). depth 5 m - 25 m, (b). transparency 3.00 m - 11.00 m, (c). temperature 26 ºC - 28.45 ºC, (d). salinity 31.50 ppt - 38.20 ppt, (e). Substrate consist of : sand, loamy sand, sandy loam , silt loam, silt, sand and coral, (f). current velocity 0.059 m/s - 0.238 m/s , and (g). Total Suspended Solid (TSS) 180 mg/l - 305 mg/l. 2. Variable of chemical parameter are : (a). dissolved oxygen 6.85 ppm - 8.74 ppm, (b). pH 7.97 - 8.59, (c). phosphate 0.081 mg/l - 0.435 mg/l , and (d). nitrate 0.145 mg/l - 4.134 mg/l, 3. Variable of biological parameter are : (a). abundance of phytoplankton 106760 cell/l - 210380 cell/l, and (b). chlorophyll-a 0.033 mg/l - 0.037 mg/l.
The evaluation result on the values of site suitability for the development mariculture at zone utilization of Kupang Bay, indicates : (a). for the sea weed culture categorized as moderately suitable (S2), (b). Grouper fish culture using floating net cage at the level of marginally suitable (S3), (c). Pearls oyster culture categorized at the level of not suitable (N).
The sub-zone for sea weed culture lies on the latitude 10º 01' 57.4" S and longitude 123º 34' 51.7" E, and latitude 10º 05' 46.6" S and longitude 123º 33' 20.8" E, with the potential area is 7.544 hectares. For grouper fish culture using floating net cage region lies on the latitude 10º 05' 46.6" S and longitude 123º 33' 20.8" E, width of area is 1.459 hectares, and pearls oyster culture region lies on latitude 10º 03 ‘ 44.3” S and longitude 123º 41' 30.3" E ; latitude 10º 08' 04.7" S and longitude 123º 27' 58.2" E ; latitude 10º 09' 32.4" S and longitude 123º 28' 46.6" E, width of area is 2.150 hectares.
